As for the classification of containers, we know that there are refrigerated containers, car containers, frame containers, etc., but we have not heard of the term flat rack container. So what is a platform container? How is it different from a frame container? Let's learn about it together!
The shape of a flat rack container is similar to a railway flatbed car. It is a container with a high-load-bearing bottom plate but no superstructure. The length and width of the platform are the same as the bottom dimensions of national standard containers. Generally, the length can reach more than 6 meters, the width can reach more than 4 meters, the height can reach about 4.5 meters, and the weight can reach 40 metric tons.
There are two types of flat rack containers. One is with top corners and bottom corners, and the other is only with bottom corners but no top corners. Some have grooves on both sides of the bottom plate for straddle carrier loading and unloading, and the sides and ends of the bottom plate are also equipped with tie-down devices. It is mainly used to load oversized and very heavy goods. Two flat rack containers can be connected together, and the same fasteners and lifting devices as other containers can be used.
Frame container has no top and sides, and its characteristic is loading and unloading from the side of the container. It mainly carries overweight cargo, and is also convenient for loading livestock, as well as bare cargo such as steel that can be exempted from external packaging.
The biggest difference between frame container and flat rack container is that frame container has standing plugs at both ends of the bottom plate. The height of the plug is the same as that of standard container, and there are lifting holes on the top for special lifting equipment. Ordinary container cranes can be used to hang on the top of the plug for lifting. Flat rack container has only floor, no plug, and can only be lifted by wire rope or chain.
